Training at more than one gym

If you always train in the same place, you can skip this page entirely — the app already works the way you want. Gyms are for people who train in two or more.

Why gyms exist

Every workout is saved against a machine, and a machine is one particular bench or rack. Two gyms means two sets of them, and a leg press in one is not the leg press in the other — the same forty kilos can be a different exercise.

Telling the app which gym you are at does two things: the move list shows only what is actually in the room with you, and each machine keeps a record that stays comparable to itself.

Adding your gyms

1
Open "Gyms" and add the gym you have been training at so far. It takes every machine you already have, so nothing changes and nothing goes missing.
2
Add the second gym. It starts empty on purpose — you fill it as you go, with the machines you actually find there.
A machine with no gyms ticked is available at every gym. That is what every machine looks like before you add your first gym, and why nothing changes until you do.

Choosing where you are

The gym picker sits at the top of the move selector, above the workout day. Pick one and the app remembers it until you pick another, so you set it once when you arrive.

The chosen gym is shown under the date on the workout screen, so you can always see which one the list is filtered to.

The move list then shows only that gym's machines. A move whose machines are all somewhere else drops out of the list until you add it here.

A move you cannot find here yet

Turn on "Show other gyms" next to "Show hidden". Your other gyms' machines come back into the list, greyed out and marked, so you can see what you already have set up elsewhere.

Tap the ⋮ next to one of them and you get two ways to bring it over:

  • Link — the same machine, now at both gyms. Your whole history follows it, and the numbers carry straight on.
  • Copy — a second machine under the same move, at this gym only, starting a record of its own.
Only link a machine if it is literally the same equipment. Weights are not comparable between different machines.

When in doubt, copy. A separate record costs you nothing; a linked one that should not have been makes your progress look like it fell off a cliff.

Changing it later

Every machine section on a move's page has a tick box per gym. Tick as many as apply, or leave them all empty to make the machine available everywhere.

A machine you add while a gym is selected starts ticked for that gym, which is almost always what you want.
